back to north-central indiana. moving off to the east. will focus on the heavy downpours. lightning and thunder just to the south and east. back over to frankfurt and north-central indiana. watch for some heavy downpours. there will be a lull in the middle part of the day but sunshine today comes 88 degrees. some dry hours in between. scattered storms tomorrow. a little cooler with some scattered thunderstorms will have more in a little bit. >> we have breaking news this morning is a serious crash on the tristate has all lands shut down at 147. this happened late last night just before 11:00 p.m.. the semi truck went into the presidenmedian. to summarize

for the gunmen. the nine year- old was shot twice in the chest in the 1200 block of east 71. relatives say he was not too far from that location. he may have been walking down the sidewalk or waiting for the bus when someone opened fire. soon after he was found lying on the grass in the backyard. discovered by a woman returning home from work as you can imagine she was shocked when she saw and she immediately called 911. >> whoever did it should try themselves in. >> here's just a child. just a baby. just a child. when is it going to stop? >> police are still looking for the gunman. back to you. >>the pentagon is revealing who

was recently murdered by islamist militants in iraq. the group "i-sis" released video in which james foley was brutally beheaded. american special forces staged a raid earlier this summer in *syria, where they believed foley and other hostages were shaw being held. but when the troops arrived, the hostages had already been moved. president obama called foley's murder "appalling." >> no ideology, not of any value to human beings. the end elegy is bankrupt. >> we know craftwork we know he's in heaven. >> i think what we are telegraphing is you are not going to persuade us to withdraw. >>the newest airstrikes came

yesterday. american authorities won't say how many hostages are *still being held by "i-sis"... or who they are. and the wall street journal is reporting that the captors originally demanded a ransom of 100-$132 million from the family and the news website he worked for. >> protests in ferguson, missouri, were more tame last night thanks to smaller crowds and some rain. the streets were mostly empty as thunderstorms came through. police still made six arrests, mostly for failing to disperse. no guns were seized, and no tear gas was used. this comes after a day where attorney general eric holder arrived in ferguson. stacy cohen has more on that... >> the attorney general arrived on wednesday. he attended meetings at a community college in visited the tenors and a restaurant. >> we want to help the best we can. >> also having a private meeting

with the family. the grand jury began hearing evidence today but it will be a long process. the prosecutor says he's not going to rush the time line. >> aspiration is mid october. >> in march on the office on wednesday demanding justice for michael brown and long term positive change for st. louis. a more peaceful night tuesday but it wasn't completely quiet. a police officer has been released of duty for appointing a semi- automatic assault rifle at a peaceful protester. in st. louis county sgt force the officer to lower his button and discovered him away. the officer has been suspended indefinitely. >>two men face serious charges, after an attempted burglary led to a 20-hour hostage drama in harvey. the men held as many as eight people captive... most of them children... as police negotiators tried to coax them

out. during the ordeal, they shot and wounded two police officers. they traded one hostage for some cigarettes. they demanded a getaway car. they threatened to *kill their captives. finally, down to their last four hostages, their luck ran out. >> getting a lot of discussion i was very circular. at that point in time there was no indication made that they were going to release any more kids. >>more than 20 "swat" officers stormed the house and arrested the men. police say the young hostages were terrified, but not physically hurt. both men have extensive criminal records... and both were violating their parole. the body of a chicago woman, murdered in bali, is back in america. the remains of sheila von wiese-mack arrived yesterday at dulles airport in virginia. a medical examiner will perform an autopsy at dover air force base. initial reports said she was choked to death... her neck was

broken, and her body dismembered and stuffed into a suitcase. mack's daughter heather and her boyfriend tommy schaefer are being held, on suicide watch. police say heather mack and her mother had a stormy and sometimes violent relationship. a chicago memorial for sheila von wiese-mack is planned for next month. police now say a teenager was trying to steal construction materials when he was crushed to death by a concrete slab at a building company in alsip. the 16-year-old boy was killed early yesterday when he got pinned between two walls at "the lombard company". police say he and two other teens had just removed the steel rods that were holding the concrete walls up. the boy died on the scene. the two 15-year-olds who were with him were charged with criminal trespass, and released to their parents. a babysitter narrowly escaped death at a north side park yesterday. a large tree limb fell on her while she was watching three children at touhy park. the 24-year old woman suffered a broken leg, and a number of

scrapes, cuts and bruises. police officers pulled her out from under the limb. she was taken to the hospital in serious condition, but with non life-threatening injuries. the children were not hurt. northfield police are trying to determine what caused an elderly woman to drive her car into a mariano's store... sending four people to the hospital. it happened yesterday afternoon. the woman was taken to the hospital with her elderly female passenger. a 19-year-old woman and 54- year-old woman were also hospitalized. none of the injuries are considered life-threatening. a woman was taking video of a bad storm, when the weather got a little too close. stephanie ray was out with her daughter watching the sky light up over their home in idaho. one of the lightning bolts came down a few feet away from the rays. >> everything lit up and it sounded like a gun went off. >> not sure what had happened. a few seconds later i cursed and said a thing could get hit by lightning. >>ray says they'll be heading

a judge has ruled that a 13- year-old girl is competent to stand trial on allegations that she deliberately started a wildfire that destroyed dozens of homes north of san diego in may. last month, the judge ordered the san marcos girl to be psychologically evaluated to see if she was fit to stand trial. prosecutors allege she intentionally started the fire which destroyed 36 homes and one business. she pleaded not guilty on four counts. last year a teenager in texas claimed affluenza for a deadly d-u-i crash. that meant he didn't understand the consequences of his actions because he came from a privileged family. now that teen's father has been arrested. prosecutors say fred couch told police officers at the scene of a disturbance last month that he was a reserve officer.

they say he even showed them a badge. but it turned out to be fake. couch is charged with impersonating an officer. last year his 17 year old son ethan received ten years *probation for killing four people while driving drunk the u-s supreme court is delaying the start of same-sex marriages in virginia. the court granted a request from a county clerk in northern virginia yesterday, to block same-sex marriages across the state while the issue is being appealed to the supreme court. the court did not provide an explanation for its order, but it make a similar decision in utah last month. without court intervention, same-sex couples would have been allowed to get married in virginia ... starting today. a woman waited a long time to writer her first book.. but she then she realized her story was too hot to hold back any longer. georgie gorringe is an 86 year old great- great grandmother in utah. she just wrote a romance novel called, "no good bye." she says it took her five years to finish. but forget the sappy stuff

'70's right now. 71 degrees along the lakefront. a bit muddy then we have some storms struck in all the way out back down to aurora and naperville and down to crown point. i have heavy downpours near naperville across portions of the county. we will see heavy downpours this morning. lightning and thunder. i think things will improve this afternoon. a warm front will move to the north. we could see some severe weather and later on. slight risk of the severe weather. the biggest threat of heavy downpours and maybe gusty wind comes late to make an overnight. mostly cloudy today off and on stores. late date for this evening with a high of 88 was sunshine. warm up to the '80s partly sunny skies. we have 73 degrees later. tomorrow, 4 percent chance of storms especially in the morning. high near 90 degrees.

to children's hospital in critical condition and he died a short time later. this morning, police are looking for the gunman. the nine year-old was shot twice in the chest in the 1200 block of east 71st. relatives say he doesn't live too far from that location he could have been walking down the sidewalk or even waiting for the bus when someone opened fire. detectives don't know if he was the intended target. most likely not. soon after the shooting he was found lying in the grass of his backyard he was discovered by a woman returning home from work. she shocked at what she saw and immediately called 911. >> turn yourself in. this was an innocent child. >> just a child. just a baby. a whole life ahead of him. why would you do that? this needs to stop. when will it stop? >> police are still looking for

their son would die. they couldn't do anything to stop it but they hope others can be saved. >> will we have been doing wasn't enough. we don't know if it'll save any of the others. >> an organization called the committee to protect journalists estimate 20 journalists are still missing in syria, many held captive after being kidnapped. lives very much at risk. >>three hamas military leaders were killed by an israeli airstrike. that bombing destroyed a four story building in southern gaza. it killed three hamas leaders, but it also left people buried under the rubble. that building was one of 20 targets that were hit by the israeli military yesterday. airstrikes resumed after rockets were fired from gaza after the last cease fire expired without a peace deal. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. charges are pending against two men who took a woman and six children hostage in harvey.

police swat teams brought a 20- hour hostage standoff to a successful end in harvey. two burglars who took a woman and six children hostage are now in jail. police made their move yesterday morning when negotiations with the captors broke down. the hostages were said to be terrified, but not physically hurt. the body of a chicago woman, murdered in bali, is back in america. the remains of sheila von wiese- mack arrived yesterday at dulles airport in virginia. a medical examiner will perform an autopsy at dover air force base. mack's daughter heather and her boyfriend tommy schaefer are being held, on suicide watch. police say a teenager was trying to steal construction materials when he was crushed to death by the hostess twinkie plant in suburban schiller park is going to close in october... ending an 84-year run there. the closing will affect some 400-employees. it's one of four remaining hostess bakeries in the country. twinkies were invented in the chicago area in 1930. chicago teachers union president karen lewis inched another step closer to a formal bid to unseat mayor rahm emanuel in next year's election.

violent protest in liberia. four people were injured while fighting with security forces who put up a road blockade, as part of a quarantine. residents say they were never warned about the blockade. supplies are dwindling and prices are rising for basic needs, including water. authorities have started delivering food to those residents. the ebola death toll has now hit over 13-hundred people in west africa. a patient is being tested for ebola at a hospital in california. health officials say he just

returned from west africa. but they won't have his test results from the c-d-c for another three days. a friend of boston bombing suspect dzhokhar tsarnaev is expected to plead guilty to interfering with a police investigation. dias kadyrbayev is charged with going through tsarnaev's dorm room in dartmouth, massachusetts, and removing a backpack full of emptied-out fireworks, before police could search the room. kadyrbayev had planned to plead not guilty... but he's expected in court today, to change his plea. burglars broke into a woman's home in california and stole her cellphone. but they may have given themselves away, by using the phone to take a few "selfies." a few days after the cellphone was stolen from the house in santa clarita, the "selfie" photos were posted to the woman's "cloud" account. she says she doesn't *know the people in the pictures. they could be the thieves. or, if the stolen phone was resold, they could be the
